Providing individual talk therapy and EMDR
“The dark does not destroy the light; it defines it. It's our fear of the dark that casts our joy into the shadows” - Brené Brown
My name is Meghan Hayhoe. I am EMDR trained and I am dedicated to meeting my client’s where they’re at as they work towards where they want to go. Choosing to invest in yourself through therapy is one of the most courageous things you can do, and having an understanding, supportive listener you trust to guide you through the process is imperative in helping you go from surviving each day to truly thriving.
Access Your Resilience
Sometimes the idea of facing difficult emotions can feel intimidating, but you have all the tools you need to get to where you want to go in therapy. I’m there as a collaborative partner to help along the way.
Build Clarity
So much about mental health can feel murky – why did that trigger me? Today should be a good day, why do I feel so anxious? Working with me will involve building clarity on all of these unanswered questions. Once we understand more about our emotions we’re that much more equipped to manage them and live the life we want.
What is EMDR?
EMDR stands for eye movement desensitization reprocessing. When you’ve had an impactful negative experience (or many), those memories can get stored in a way that makes the feelings, images, sounds and thoughts surrounding the memory feel almost stuck in place, continuously re-triggering you. You might know logically that you are safe or worthy, but there’s a disconnect between the logical and emotional part of the brain that fuels those distorted thoughts, which can block true processing and healing.
EMDR uses eye movements (or taps/tones) to help bridge that gap between the logical and the emotional brain by stimulating an adaptive processing system that’s already within you - it just needs help getting tuned into place.
That’s what I’m here for. I work with you as we clean out the emotional disturbance surrounding those difficult experiences. We don’t erase memories, we just reprocess them so they’re simply a part of your life, not consuming your life. For more information about how EMDR works visit www.emdria.org.
About Me
I graduated with my degree in Psychology from University of San Diego in 2013 and received my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from University of Southern California in 2016. I’ve been providing therapy for over 8 years and I continue to feel so fulfilled working in a role where I get to witness clients get to places they never thought were possible.
I provide individual talk therapy and EMDR to adults struggling with anxiety, trauma, self-esteem, life transitions, relationships and more. No matter what kind of trauma it is, I am there to help you work through it. We go at your pace and we don’t move forward until you’re ready
